Skipton AC News (April 2008)
The monthly newsletter detailing the latest news, results, forthcomming events, club meeting dates and more.
News___________________________________________________________________
Many congratulations to Brenda and Mike Davis on their recent marriage. Well done to Mike for a PB: a circuit of the decks in 5 gin & tonics! Good training for the Medoc Marathon!
Results_________________________________________________________________
Well done to all who ran the London marathon on Sunday 13th April enduring somewhat changeable weather! Congrats to debutante Jerry Lamb and for PBs achieved by Angela Barrett & Steve Hall (inc intravenous vodka). It sounds like all concerned had a cracking weekend away, including covering the 26-ish miles in the distance’s centenary year.
Also congrats to Phil Evans (1:41:15 & course PB) and 2nd F35-ish Karen Chown (1:42:18 first time BBW) in the multi terrain, half marathon Baildon Boundary Way, 6th April 2008. Good to see Justin Hill travelling west from Hull (way better than going east of Hull), also on his first BBW and cantering round in 1:48:40. Just a tad down on last year's time was Jayne Butterworth (1:58:40). There were clear blue skies when we started but a keen, cold wind. Chris Rose and Paul Norman took ample opportunity to gaze at the fine views whilst topping up their skiing suntans and cruised around in fine style but stuck in 2nd gear.
Forthcoming Events______________________________________________________
26th April Three Peaks (race full, but marshals are wanted, see below)
3rd May Malhamdale Mini & Full Meander (run / walk, walk / run, etc)
11th May Race for Life (some may run, all welcome to marshal). N.B. New route!
18th May Club walk, Rick guiding us up Striding Edge onto Helvellyn (travel there by minibus)
25th May Edinburgh Marathon (a group are going up for this)
7th June Wharfedale half and marathon (walk or run, or walk & run, or run & walk or neither)
Other stuff_______________________________________________________________
Forthcoming for your diaries:
We’ve been asked to help out with the 3 Peaks as it is an international event this year so needs to have a better level of course marking and marshalling. If you can support Phil Evans (and any other runners who we know) then please sing out then you can liaise where to be on the course to pass on drinks & Jelly Babies. Contact PN (or Phil)
As ever, we are marshalling the Race for Life. This is an ace way to put something back into sport and donate some of your valuable time and skills to charity. Contact PN. The surface of the railway line has been flooded for months and the surface is very broken up so the Race for Life is being re-routed. This means no road and railway sections (so eases some of the marshalling challenges) but more off road (though very pretty). This means we will be marshalling different locations to those we are used to and that those who run might be advised to wear trail/xc/fell shoes! A draft revised route can be viewed via the club website.
Club camping weekend: first weekend in July.
Proposed club trip: Great Langdale road half marathon 14th September. Rick will organise sunshine for the event this year as well as a minibus but he is making no promises regarding the removal of hills. A good day out to end the summer.
Plus: Coniston Trail 4th Oct. An event we haven’t done before but the website looks good!
Next club meeting 21st May 19:30 at 5 Hurrs Road
Following meeting 25th June 19:30 at 10 Castle View Terrace
