Letters have been sent out to existing members requesting prompt payment of subscriptions for 2008. Please ensure that you make your payment to Treasurer Anne-Marie Bulcock ASAP. Failure to do so will result in excommunication from the club!!

Skipton AC will host the final cross country event of the winter league on Sunday 24th February. HQ for the event will be Aireville school and the course will cover the school grounds and the pitch and put golf course. As usual we would very much appreciate the support of members in marshalling the event and a few runners to make sure that we have both a male and a female team at our “home” event. Those able to marshal please contact Paul Norman in advance if possible (01756 797672) or turn up on the morning of the event. The plan is to meet at 11am on Saturday 23rd to walk the course and agree arrangements for course setting and then from 8am on Sunday 24th to mark the course. The event starts at 11am. We also need to provide food after the event and have agreed that we will each make a “loaf of sandwiches” to sell in the school hall afterwards. Contact Rick Small, who has agreed to coordinate sandwich making, for further details (01756 700818).

The club has been sent a number of New Balance 10% discount cards which can be used at their Shap, Keswick and Flimby factory shops. These will be distributed as best we can. Please contact Paul (01756 797672) if you particularly want one but don’t get sent one.

There is a move within UK Athletics to rearrange the age groupings for junior events. Dave Paver has produced a detailed note outlining why he believes that this is a misguided idea. After careful consideration, our own Roger Ingham has agreed with Dave’s assessment of the proposals and the club committee has therefore agreed to support Dave and Roger’s opposition to the proposed changes. Richard Barrett will formulate a reply to this effect on behalf of the club.

Club day visit event:

At the last club meeting there was some discussion as to a suitable “club event” similar to our previous mini-bus trips to the Great North Run, Freckleton Half Marathon and Great Langdale Half. Suggestions include Great Langdale again and one or more events in the Lakeland Trail Series. Richard Barrett also recommended the Wharfedale TTT event as an excellent local one in which to participate. If anyone has a particular preference or suggestion please contact a member of the committee.

Next club meeting 19th March 19:30 at 5 Hurrs Road
